How Lango pilgrims entered Namugongo, triumphantly

Pilgrims

Namugongo|On May 31, thousands of pilgrims from the Lango sub-region entered the Namugongo Martyrs shrines, none of whom appeared tired but cheerful.

After weeks of trekking, the jubilant pilgrims arrived in Namugongo via Naalya. They treated those on the roadside to dazzling, jubilant, and fulfilled Holy moods.

As they approached the celebration venues, they were led by a combination of Uganda Police Force brass bands and a private band courtesy of Dr Jane Ruth Aceng Ocero, Lira City’s female MP.

Patrick Ogwang Obura, Oyam South MP hopeful joined Dr. Aceng in supporting the pilgrims for the annual event.

They thanked the two leaders for the special treat, which allowed them to enter Namugongo shrines “in style and peace.”

Dr. Aceng Ocero has been with the pilgrims since the beginning of their journey, generously supporting her people as they walk for miles.

She provided the pilgrims with medical first aid kits through Lira Regional Referral Hospital, as well as food and beverages while they were camped in Kasana, Luwero.

Dr. Aceng organised a mini health camp on Thursday, with doctors and nurses from Mulago National Hospital and other facilities treating pilgrims who were resting in Matugga.

In 2022, Aceng supported the Lango pilgrims equally, and the brass band cooled their feet as they entered Namugongo.

The pilgrims have promised to repay her with abundant votes in 2026. Referred to as “selfless and everyone’s leader,” some residents of Lango but from other districts declared they would organise Lira City residents to vote for her.

Uganda will observe a public holiday on June 3 to commemorate Martyrs who were killed for their strong faith in God.
