Agago | The 5 Division Court Martial of the UPDF sitting in Agago district has sentenced Private Mukanja Micheal to life imprisonment for murder and Private Okello George of 81 Battalion to 30 years for attempted murder.
Both convicts are attached to 79 and 81 Battalions, respectively.
The Court-martial chaired by Colonel Ismail Ssendagire was informed that on May 31, 2023, at around 1700hrs, Private Mukanja while at Kokil Trading Centre, Paimol Sub-County playground shot and killed Omol Justine after a disagreement over a football match.
The court also sentenced Private Okello George of the 81 Battalion to 30 years for attempted murder.
Further, the court heard that on the afternoon of 27 August 2023 while in Lira Kato Sub-Country, Agago district the convict shot and injured Odwel John after developing a disagreement. The injured is still undergoing treatment at Lacor Hospital.

At the same court sitting, Private Ssekaja Ivan was sentenced to 14 months for failure to protect war material.
“The chairman of the Court Martial, Col Ssendagire reiterated that the UPDF will continue to stick to its ethos and values and doesn’t condone acts of its men turning guns against the very population they are meant to protect,” Major Flavia Terimulungi, 5 Division Public Information Officer said.
