Bukedea residents have demonstrated over the assassination threats on Speaker of Parliament.

Soroti – Sept. 12, 2022: A section of angry women and men in Bukedea district on Saturday demonstrated after reports emerged that their leader’s life is in danger.
They stormed Kolir sub-county headquarters in protest of the assassination claims on their woman MP and Speaker Among directs government on teachers’ salary rise.
The protestors drawn from various parts of the district expressed their anger following the news that broke out in Parliament on Thursday that the Speaker of Parliament who is their daughter is on the assassination list.
The angry protestors, holding placards with different emotional writings chanted “Save Anita, Bukedea is Bleeding, Protect Anita or else arrows boys take charge, Losing Two Speakers No!, Save Parliament, Save Kolir, Security where are you, stop threats on our MP and others.”
Jackson Ojekedek, the Chairperson LC3 of Kamutur sub-county said they are demonstrating because the speaker is a national leader that government owes to provide adequate security.
Moses Alutia, the district councillor representing Kolir sub-county said it’s with sadness that they express their anger on road in a bid to show the government that they are disappointed.
He added that a threat to the speaker is a threat to Bukedea, Teso and Uganda at large; adding that Among serves the whole country.

Last week Speaker Among who hails from Kolir sub-county in Bukedea district where the mega demonstrations took place told Parliament that unknown people have been trailing her car.
It is less than a year since Among replaced the chair left by the former speaker Jacob Oulanyah. The former Omoro County MP’s death sparked cruel debates among Ugandans.
