Amolatar – March 17, 2022: Assistant Inspector General of Police (AIGP) Asan Kasingye has asked Police in the North Kyoga Region to accept their fault and forge a way of improving its public image if they are to ‘regain’ lost public confidence.
Kasingye who is in Lango sub-region for a one-week official duty told journalists at Amolatar town council after meeting police leadership and other stakeholders that there have been so many complaints against police and “it’s time to improve it”.
He said the public complaints are about money asked by police for bond yet it is free, transport for bringing a police dog from Lira which is charged up to shs400,000, among others.
Kasinge, however, said the police budget for fuel is too little. For instance, he said the RPC gets only 200 liters per quarter.
The AIGP said he was shocked to find that most of the cases in Amolatar are witchcraft.
He asked the Local Councils to handle such matters other than running to the police.
ASP Jimmy Patrick Okema, the North Kyoga Regional Police spokesperson, said Kasingye’s coming is very timely, adding, “There are a lot of complaints against police.”
After Amolatar and Dokolo, Kasinye proceeded to Apac and Kwania districts on Tuesday.
