Abim’s hospital God Mercy said one is still critically ill.
Abim – January 17, 2022: One passenger out of the 27 that survived the Alerek road crash in Abim district last week was amputated.
Another remains in a critical condition with the rest (25) waiting to be discharged today (Monday).
On Friday, a tipper truck with registration number UBJ 058T overturned at Alerek sub-county. It was on the way to a weekly auction.
The truck was transporting both building sand and 27 people who were all admitted at Abim hospital.
Among those admitted included a juvenile identified as Jennifer Akello. She sustained a serious injury to the leg. The leg was later amputated.
TND News spoke with Dr God Mercy, the medical superintendent of Abim Hospital who confirmed that Akello’s leg was amputated.
“The other juvenile is still in critical condition but the rest will be discharged from the hospital today,” God said.
He adds that Akello and the young man in critical condition will remain at the hospital for further management.
She is also stabilizing and we are offering her psychosocial support.
Since the incident happened, the Alerek community has contributed over shs317, 000 in cash and 202,000 in pledges to support the accident victims in the hospital.
