IWPG concludes 5th Int’l branch AGM with over 600 attendees

Emphasis was put on Women’s cooperation for the realization of sustainable peace.


Over 600 branch members from 83 branches in 21 countries attended

Seoul, South Korea – January 23, 2022: On January 22, the 5th International Branch Annual General Meeting hosted by the International Women’s Peace Group (IWPG) Chairwoman Hyun Sook Yoon was held.

The online global event took place at 8:00 PM (local time) in South Korea and “concluded with great success”, organizers say.

This year’s meeting received a report on peace activities conducted by domestic and foreign branches in 2021. It was held under the slogan of “Women, Who Lead Peace”.

It also adopted the main activity plans and policies for 2022 under the slogan of “Women’s Cooperation for the Realization of Sustainable Peace.”

In particular, experts from various fields related to peace activities gathered and about 600 people from 83 branches from 21 countries attended.

For continuous peace activities, they are actively carrying out peace activities such as urging support of the DPCW, women’s peace education, Plant Peace, exchanging cooperation with civil societies around the World and calling for an end to the bloodshed in Myanmar.

In her greetings, Chairwoman Hyun Sook Yoon said, “Let’s unite with international women’s organizations who will create a culture of peace together with branch executives active around the World. Peace leaders need the large-scale organization and system that can encompass the entire World. I hope that you will continue to make efforts and research to become peace experts.”

Yayesh Tesfahuney Kiflay, the Branch Manager of Ethiopia who attended the conference, said, “In 2022 our main activities are to strengthen the branch office, to register the branch office and to increase the number of IWPG members.”

Hoi Sochivanny, the Branch Manager of Cambodia, said, “As a plan for 2022, we will start a regional workshop on the importance of women’s peace education after meeting with the leaders of IWPG Cambodia’s branch.”

Former State Minister for Women Affairs in Jordan, Nadia Hashem Aloul (IWPG Advisory Committee member), emphasized that “Peace can be achieved if 3.9 billion women unite their hearts and minds to become one with the IWPG and HWPL to achieve world peace.”

In an encouraging speech, IWPG Mandalay Peace Committee Deputy Representative Khin Thida Han (Doctor) of Myanmar said, “I feel moved and warm to see IWPG members from all over the world working hard for peace. As a citizen of Myanmar, it is a motivating factor to continue our efforts for peace.”

Celine Marie Yolande, the National Coordinator of the Federation for the Promotion of Women and Children in Madagascar, said, “The reason for participating in the IWPG goals and activities is to advocate for peace that transcends borders, races, religions and ideologies, and secondly, peace.”

She concluded her encouraging speech by saying, “Let’s all fulfil the mission of peace so that future generations can live in harmony.”

IWPG plans to actively engage in Women’s Cooperation for the Realization of Sustainable Peace with women’s organizations around the world this year.
