By Robert Edwomu

Soroti – 27, October 2021: Police on Tuesday evening denied the vice chairperson, Teso Parliamentary Group (TPG) also the Soroti City Woman Member of Parliament access to the main market.

Joan Alobo Achom was to discuss with the vendors and find out  the challenges they’re facing in the market.

The Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) party “iron lady” from Teso was on her “supervisory and monitoring roles” following the recent impulses at the main market.

The iron lady had communicated to the Resident City Commissioner Soroti Peter Pex Paak on Monday evening. There was excitements in her camp.

But, upon reaching the market premises, disappointment erupted.

The furious MP’s efforts to enter the market were frustrated even when she tried to negotiate with the police.

The Woman MP wanted, among other things to donate aprons to the vendors.

At that time, the Anti Riot Police personnel were deployed around the market premises.

In an interview later, Alobo says being denied access to the market shows that all the impulses that is being said are true.

She wants an audit into the market and asked the police to expose the rot in there.

Achom has a vow: to deliver the matter to the Parliamentary Committee on Trade and Investments and a visit to the facility.

Some locals that witnessed the scuffle in the market say the area MP was denied access because of the lockups allocation saga.

Oscar Ageca, the Police spokesperson of East Kyoga says the MP was denied access due to the presidential guidelines on coronavirus that prohibits gathering over 200 people.

He says the market already had about 1200 people, so adding another gathering would breach the set guidelines.

He further reveled that they engaged later with the Woman MP and allowed her to organize that event somewhere out side the market.
