Lira – 29, October 2021: Members of Parliament (MPs) from Lango subregion together with the Executive Director of the Uganda National Roads Authority (UNRA), Allen Kagina have entered the second day visiting major roads across the subregion.
Numerous complaints by the leaders and community on what they say “unfair treatment when it comes to tarmacking of roads” have been conveyed to the authority in recent months – after more than 30 years of waiting.
Record shows that Lango subregion has only 3% of tarmack roads compared to other parts of the country.
The above statistic and other concerns prompted Lango MPs under LPG to petition UNRA and Ministry of Works and Transport to come for “a fact finding visit”.
On Thursday, LPG chairperson who doubles as the Kole district Woman MP, Judith Alyek together with UNRA Executive Director, Allen Kagina monitored roads from the four district.

Among the roads inspected included Namasale-Ochero to Dokolo; Dokolo-Abako via Bata and Abako-Aloi to Adwari; Adwari to Okwang sub county and Okwang via Kaguta Bridge to Ogur.
Alyek told Kagina that Lango is being “treated unfairly and government needs to correct”.
Alyek stated that roads from East Lango that’s Amolatar, Dokolo, Alebtong and Otuke have no tarmac roads.
Felix Okot Ogong is the Dokolo South MP. He said, “It looks bad for NRM to stay in power for over 30 years and fail to work on roads in Lango.”
Responding to the complaints from Lango MPs, Kagina said government will soon consider tarmacking roads from Ochero-Namasale to Dokolo; Dokolo to Bata and Lira-Apala to Kotido.
Why? “Because it is an order from the President that all those roads have to be graded.”
