Uganda produced 2.81b liters of dairy milk in 2020 earning her $139.5m

Kampala – 25, August 2021: According to the Dairy Development Authority (DDA), the dairy sector has grown over the years, including in 2020 amidst Covid-19 pandemic.
DDA says, over time, the dairy sector experienced “rapid growth from 1.5 billion liters in 2008 to 2.81 billion liters in 2020”.
The earning in foreign exchange is valued at $139.5 million in 2019, the authority says.
“This is attributed to the dairy cattle, with the contribution of goats to the overall industry unknown unquantified. Dairy goat farming in the country has been underdeveloped and non-regulated over time, yet it has enormous potential for improved health, wellbeing and wealth,” the authority reveals via its official Twitter account.
It also says goat’s milk is, “Highly nutritious and used for the treatment of cancer, HIV and currently boosts human immunity against COVID-19.”
“Goat’s milk is recommended to manage coronary diseases and intestinal disorders that contribute to common lifestyle diseases globally.”
Still, according to DDA, goats’ milk contains less lactose which is highly recommended for a population with lactose intolerance, and also high calcium and fatty acids with low cholesterol.
