MP Cecelia Ogwal sworn-in as Chairperson Board of Directors RAKIPS

After a controversy last year, a U-turn was made by Parliament of Uganda and it unanimously agreed to name the Institute for Parliamentary Studies after the Speaker of Parliament Rebecca Alitwala Kadaga.

Kampala – 8, February 2021: The Dokolo district Woman MP, Hon. Cecilia Barbra Atim Ogwal was sworn in as the first chairperson, Board of Directors of the Rebecca Alitwala Kadaga Institute of Parliamentary Affairs (RAKIPS).

Known as the iron lady, the opposition politician has never hidden her support for the Kamuli Woman MP, also the Speaker of Parliament, Rt. Hon. Rebecca Alitwala Kadaga.

Both MPs, Ogwal (FDC) and Kadaga (NRM) are few (some) of the longest-serving legislators in Uganda’s history. On 14 January, they were both reelected by voters to the 11th Parliament.

While taking over the office on Monday, the Dokolo Woman MP swore: “In the name of the Almighty God that being appointed the Board Member of the Rebecca Alitwala Kadaga Institute of Parliamentary Affairs (RAKIPS). I will at all times well and truly carry out my duties and responsibilities of the Rebecca Alitwala Kadaga Institute of Parliamentary Affairs (RAKIPS) in compliance with the laws relating to the Rebecca Alitwala Kadaga Institute of Parliamentary Affairs (RAKIPS).” “So help me God.”

Speaker Kadaga had this to say: “I am delighted to have officiated the launch of the Rebecca Alitwala Kadaga training institute, a brainchild of the Parliament of Uganda, to support capacity building in Parliament and local councils.”

In May 2020, President Museveni signed into law a bill naming the Institute for Parliamentary studies after Rebecca Alitwala Kadaga.
