Pader—29, August 29, 2020: At least 250 babies have missed immunization between March and July, putting the district at category 3 in immunization practices.
This was revealed by Pader district assistant health officer (ADAO), Anna Apio, while interfacing with the media on Wednesday this week.
According to Apio, the frequency of immunization services is declining within the health facilities, as many of the health workers focus more on fighting the novel coronavirus disease.
She says guidelines from the health ministry recommends immunization to be carried out at least 3 times a week for health center IIs and daily for HCIIIs and IVs.
She appealed to the in-charges to ensure that immunization services are not cut off since it is an essential service and vital for protecting children from killer diseases.
Apio who also doubles as the focal person Maternal Child Health, encourages health workers to also organize frequent integrated outreach services in hard to reach communities (areas) to take immunization and other services nearer to communities that may not be able to reach the health facility.
She, however, cautioned that in delivering services, health workers should preserve Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) issued by the ministry of health to prevent spread of coronavirus.
