
National—7, July 2020: Results of novel coronavirus tests done on Monday 6, July confirms eighteen new cases out of 2, 414 samples tested.
Of the eighteen cases, Dr Henry G. Mwebesa who’s the Director General Health Services, in his press release issued Tuesday says seven were truck drivers, ten are contacts and alerts; five are from Tororo, three from Luwero and two from Amuru districts.
Another case was of an Indian, a resident in Uganda who returned on 5, July 2020 from India and was under quarantine at the time of test.
Regarding the Ugandan truck drivers, three arrived from Kenya via Malaba while four arrived via Busia, Vurra, Padea and Elegu Points of Entry.
“Twenty seven foreign truck drivers (24 from Kenya, 2 Congolese and 1 Eritrean) tested positive for Covid-19 at border points on entry and their entry into the country was not permitted,” he added.
Dr Mwebesa says there are 202 active cases on admission; 173 are Ugandans, 26 foreigners and 3 refugees. It’s important to note that foreigners and refugees are admitted in our health facilities but are not captured in cumulative confirmed cases, he says.
To date, he reveals Uganda has registered a total of 896 Covid-19 recoveries; including both Ugandans and non-Ugandans and no Covid-19 related death.
A total of 212,860 cumulative total samples have been tested to date.
