In his 10th nation address on Tuesday afternoon on coronavirus cases in Uganda, President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni added more 21 days.
During the extended three weeks [21 days] of partial lockdown, night curfew will continue – and movements, restricted.
According to the President, the government has decided to keep the “stay home method” for another 21 days, starting tomorrow April 15, 2020 to May 5, 2020.
“All the measures we had put in place will continue as we continue to monitor the situation,” he announced.
On use of bicycles, he said, “we encourage the use of bicycles because there is no overcrowding and they also allow you to do exercises.”
Mr Museveni said if Ugandans were using bicycles, they wouldn’t be having “big stomachs”.
As of yesterday, Monday 13 April, 2020, 5664 Ugandans have been tested for coronavirus.
On those disrespecting security forces now enforcing COVID-19 directives, he warned them to stop.
“No one has a right to attack a member of the security force, if one turns violent, the security force can use reasonable force to subdue,” he said.
On those being given food by government, and those missing out, Museveni said: “If you were poor before corona, but you were eating, you continue eating the way you were eating.”
Food shall be diverted to only vulnerable people. It is not an anti-poverty initiative. Your poverty issue, we will handle them after corona.
The President further asked Ministry of Health – under Dr Jane Ruth Aceng to support market vendors with treated mosquitoes nets, and Kampala Capital City Authority [KCCA] to fumigate food markets within Kampala.
