- As of Wednesday 25, March, 2020, Uganda’s COVID-19 cases rose to 14 from 9.
Kampala – With strict guidelines issued by President Yoweri Museveni and Ministry of Health in recent weeks and days, Uganda’s COVID-19 cases continue to upsurge.
On Wednesday, Ministry of Health confirmed more 5 new cases – two of which are from six of Chinese nationals arrested from Zombo district, with intention of fleeing to neighbouring country, Democratic Republic of the Congo [DRC].
Whereas they were all apprehended, and now in police custody and were to be produced in Court, State Minister In charge Primary Health Care, Joyce Moriku says she won’t appear before Court for fears of spreading the virus.
“Dear Ugandans, this is a very critical moment for everyone as the number of positive cases keeps scaling up. Five more people have been confirmed positive, including 2 of the 6 Chinese that were got in Zombo. They cannot be presented in Court for fear of further spread,” Minister Moriku tweeted, on Wednesday afternoon.
Among the remaining three of the new five cases, an 8 month old baby also tested positive.
On Tuesday, President Museveni addressed the nation for the third time, in less than a week, urging Ugandans to avoid using public transport if they don’t have to.
The President, who spoke with unhappiness, warned “crooks” hiking prices on commodities like beans, sanitizers, salt, matooke, among others to be very careful.
Mr Museveni added that he would dispatch his spies to investigate, and if any trader if found guilty, his or her trading licence would be revoked and never given back.
