Dokolo district leaders are devising better ways for learning as pupils in government headed primary schools are receiving lessons under trees.
Other areas of concern are the pupils’-desk ration now at 8-1, 83 pupils to one toilet, few substantive deputy head teachers and head teachers in many schools, inadequate teachers’ accommodation, among others.
These unwanted problems was tabled on Tuesday during a budget conference, held at Dokolo district council hall. Reviewed was the budget of last financial year 2018/2019.
Dickens Okol, a councillor representing Bata sub-country says Bata is the most affected sub-country with all the 527 pupils having no classrooms. This he says is in Ocero parish.
Bwonyo Bosco who’s the district education officer [DEO] says the department is warming up tirelessly to reduce pupils’-desk ratio from the current 8-1 to 4-1, pupils’-latrine ratio from 83-1 to 60-1.
Mr Bwonyo said the department will also construct classrooms in Ocero parish, to be called Ocero Community School. He also added that they will collaborate with NGOs to fight against HIV/AIDS and child abuse.
The Committee on health and education recently found out that there has been challenges in the department of education, health and production among others.
