Uganda Wildlife Authority is set to dig a 7 kilometer trench from Lawaja to Lagazi village, Pabit parish, Purongo sub-county in Nwoya district.
Lubangakene Godfrey, project’s focal point person, in a phone interview with our reporter said that UWA has allocated Uganda shillings 110millions work.
He says the trench will extend to Kirandongo district and to maintain the existing 6kilometer trench excavated in Lii sub-county, last year.
He added that the trench will stop wild animals, especially elephants which has for decades been in conflicts with the communities by destroying crop gardens.
The elephants, he says has also claimed lives of some people.
“The project will benefit the locals who will be hired to dig up the long trench,” he said, adding that the excavations starts next week.
Okot Ben, the Purongo sub-county LC3 chairperson said the trench is going to help boost on crop production in the area since the crops and gardens will no longer be destroyed by this straw elephants.

Mr. Okot added that this will strengthen the relationship between Uganda Wildlife Authority and community of Pabit and Purongo sub counties at large.
