The on and off strikes at Makerere University will not only affect students or lectures’ affairs but also the political wings of Uganda Peoples Congress [UPC] party.
These and more was revealed by UPC party’s national chairman, Mr. Lawrence Okae while addressing the press at Uganda House, the Congress’ party Headquarters on Wednesday.
Mr. Okae termed the challenges “serious”.
However, he calls the event held on Saturday 9, February, this year as “historic moment”.
“On Saturday 9th, February, 2019, was a historic moment as the old branch executive was replaced by the new leadership chaired by Comrade (Cde) Opio Daniel who was voted for unopposed,” his press release partly reads.
He adds: “Branch chairman Cde Opio and his Executive are coming into office when both UPC and Makerere University are having serious challenges. The party is having a number of Court cases that are due to wind up. This demand for unity and calmness!”
While Makerere is locked up in on and off strikes, UPC appeals to her branch to take special interest in understanding the challenges their institution is facing and come up with what it terms “sustainable solutions that enables us to build for the future”.
On working with other political parties like DP party, Mr. Okae says UPC is “open” to listen to them.
“We are open unfortunately I have not received the letter. May be DP has another method to dislodge Museveni in 2021, we are waiting,” he says.
At the same presser, UPC party says she mourns the demise of an elder, icon and the most eminent former Bishop of Busoga Diocese, Rtd. Rt. Reverend Bishop Cyprian Bamwoze.
The man of God died on 11, February, 2019.
“Bishop Bamwoza was himself a living temple of the core virtues and values he lived, taught and preached. He believed in the establishment of personal relationship with God anchored in the values of integrity, honesty, productivity and leadership,” UPC mourns.
