Soon after his arrival from United States to Uganda via Entebbe International Airport – Robert Kyagulanyi aka Bobi Wine, the Kyandondo East MP was arrested by five security men who ordered him to enter into a waiting van.
Defiant as he was and has always been, Bobi Wine demanded to see his Lawyers first many of whom were barred from welcoming him on arrival at the airport.
His arrest on arrival was widely expected as prior signs showed conduct of security personnel at the commencement of this week.
From warning his fans against illegal protests, to barring media and journalists from reporting live events and news linked to Wine, this was a sign the Legislator was to be held on sight.
Could his Thursday arrest be linked to orations, interviews he had with international media houses while in the U.S? Or could it be about meeting some senior members of the U.S Senate who got bitter about Uganda government?
Talking on condition of anonymity, one of the top security officers in the country told this contemporary news website that Bobi Wine’s arrest from the airport has nothing to do with his current treason charges or his utterances while abroad.
He adds that the arrest was merely to prevent his followers from causing chaos and other forms of hooliganism in the city.
“We must know that the Legislator has been charged before civil court and he has come back soon and ahead of his Court case before Gulu Chief Magistrates next month. That’s what I know,” he added.
Police is yet to come out to make any statement on why Bobi Wine was arrested and brutally – as claimed by his international Lawyer – Robert Amsterdam who tweeted on being told his client was again arrested by Ugandan security forces.
On Thursday, key oppositions legislators and Lawyers to Bobi Wine were stopped from leaving their homes and others arrested while heading to Entebbe Airport.
Erias Lukwago – who’s the Kampala Lord Mayor whilst Bobi’s Lawyer and Betty Namboozi, the Mukono Municipality MP who’s also Mr Wine’s confidant saw their homes attracting heavy police deployment. This was, according to Lukwago a ‘preventive arrest’.

Another Lawyer, Asuman Busulirwa – the Bugiri Municipality MP was arrested on his way to Entebbe.
Bobi Wine flew to the U.S early this month for specialized medical treatment after his alleged torture in the hands of Special Forces Command after he was arrested in connection to the stoning of Museveni’s motorcade during Arua Municipality MP by-election.
