FROM DRUM TO DRAMA: Four FUFA executives in Police custody for theft

Four Federation of Uganda Football Association (FUFA) Lango regional leaders have been arrested for alleged fraud.

The quartet and others still at large have jointly been accused of embezzling and or hiding Sunday’s gate collections monies during FUFA Drum clash between Lango Province team and Kigezi province team at Uganda Technical College (UTC) Lira playground.

In that clash, Lango won 2:0 but couldn’t qualify to the next round of the competition even after enormous monetary and material contributions from fans.

On Monday, there was a wide concern from some fans that the moblizers had planned to announce only a quarter of money collected from fans at the gate. It led to their arrest by Lira Police.

Those arrested and later detained at Lira Central Police station include Walter Okello Anai, Steven Alol, Sam Oula, and Morris Otidi.

Moi Daniel, a FUFA publicist for Lango sub region is suspected to be on the run. However, Moi has come out strongly to deny any involvement in swindling the money.

The Sunday FUFA Drum match was attended by hundreds of thousands of fans, including some Members of Parliament from Lango.

Geoffrey Omara, the chairperson organizing committee said their projection and mathematical calculations was to collect at least shs.30 million from the gate.

Accountability

“ But to our dismay, these people only handed to us shs.1.4million saying they had a total collections of only shs.10m and that 10 percent went to FUFA,30% to the region,10% to the District Football Association while 18% of the money was paid to URA as VAT,” Omara told TND News at CPS Lira on Monday evening.

Omara says fans are now demanding for the accountability of the entire monies collected at the gate.

Moses Akena the OC Station at Lira CPS confirmed the arrest of the FUFA executives but said he could not divulge more details.

“It is true we have them. They have been charged with theft and our officers shall commence investigations,” Akena told TND News.
