Won Nyaci Yosam Odur Ebii laid to rest

The Paramount Chief of Lango His Highness Mzee Yosam Odur Ebii was laid to rest on Saturday November 22 in Teboke, Apac.

Won Nyaci died aged 99 on November 10 at Lira University Teaching Hospital where he was receiving treatreatment.

A “brother” of President Museveni, 81, Yosam was accorded an official funeral in a colorful ceremony graced by the Vice President of Uganda Maj Rtd. Jessica Alupo Epel.

The Vice President told mourners at Teboke Primary School playground that he interacted with the late Won Nyaci several times at high level meetings.

Each time he spoke at such meetings, VP Alupo said the meeting attendees would burst into laughter.

She described the late Won Nyaci as an advocate of Lango’s symbol (Amuka – Rhino) and worked hard for the autonomy and establishment of Lira University.

The University started as a Constituent College of Gulu University before a demand for its autonomy took charge.

At 11am, the program started with the body of Won Nyaci leaving his home for Teboke Primary School where the funeral service took place.

Uganda Police brass band led the procession in the company of Lango elders dressed in full traditional regalia.

Women adorned in cultural attire showcased a rare honor, reserved only for those considered cultural giants of which, Apap Yosam was one.

At Teboke Primary school ground, his casket was placed on a royal skin beneath a grass-thatched shade.

His body was returned to his home in Teboke for the final rest. He was honoured with a seven-gun salute.
