Lira City woman MP race has intensified with each nominated candidates campaigning to win favours from voters.
The constituency, currently represented by Dr Jane Ruth Aceng Ocero, has attracted two other women: Aceng Patricia Amne (Independent) and Betty Amongi Ongom of UPC.
Both Aceng and Amongi feel they’re the right candidates for the seat, whose current occupant, Dr Aceng, feels she has done a lot to be given another term.
However, as campaigns proceed, one candidate is aggrieved and has written to the Electoral Commission to take action.
Amne, in her letter dated November 20, 2025, to the Chairperson of the Electoral Commission, raised a complaint of defamatory and hate speech against her by the incumbent.
Below is the full letter:
The Acengs have been battling for the Lira City woman MP seat all the way from the NRM party primary elections in August.
Heading to that election, Aceng Patricia was barred from participating in it because – according to the party officials in Lira City, she was found not to be a registered NRM member.
In the end, Dr Aceng won the flag for the highly wanted legislative seat.
While the letter was received on November 21, the Electoral Commission has yet to respond.
