EC in Amolatar issues warnings ahead of MPs’ nominations

The Electoral Commission team – Amolatar branch says they are fully prepared to conduct the nomination processes for Members of Parliament.

Speaking to tndNews, the Commission’s official in Amolatar issued a warning to candidates for parliamentary seats regarding the use of forged certificates ahead of their nominations scheduled for October 22 and 23, 2025.

Hope Irene Nakiru, an official of the Commission based in Amolatar, urged individuals who have forged academic qualifications (certificates) to refrain from seeking nomination.

Nakiru said they face penalties of up to shs4.8 million or imprisonment for a term not exceeding 10 years, or both.

She further cautioned that any aspiring candidate utilising more than two vehicles or carrying over 10 individuals without a police sticker they are committing an offence and, upon conviction, may incur a fine not exceeding 24 currency points – equivalent to shs480,000 or face imprisonment for a term not exceeding one year, or both.

Additionally, she stated that aspiring candidates who fail to adhere to the regulations regarding the use of vehicle [convoys] and government resources, as outlined in Sections 28 and 43 of the Penal Code, are committing an offence and are subject to a fine not exceeding 24 currency points – equivalent to shs480,000 or imprisonment for a term not exceeding one year, or both.

Nakiru also mentioned that there are 12 aspirants scheduled for nomination, with seven on the first day and five on the second day.

She urged them to comply with all guidelines to prevent disruptions and delays at the nomination site.

According to her, the nomination process for each candidate will be limited to 30 minutes.

Only two individuals, in addition to the aspirants, namely the proposer and the seconder, will be allowed inside the commission office during the nomination process.

Peter Okodo, Dr Anges Atim Apea, Okot Moses Bitek, and Adupa Felix Ongwech are some of those scheduled for nominations.
