The legacy of the late Cecilia Barbara Atim Ogwal, a prominent leader under the Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) who served as the Woman Member of Parliament for Dokolo district, faces a new chapter as her daughter, Dr. Rosemary Alwoc Ogwal, has announced she will not contest the seat in the upcoming 2026 general elections.

Dr. Alwoc, who had previously expressed interest in succeeding her mother, made the announcement via her social media platform from the United Kingdom.

She assured the people of Dokolo district that she would continue to participate in community development and support initiatives aimed at improving the lives of the residents.

Dr. Alwoc highlighted her contributions to the community, including supporting churches, orphans, providing scholarships for students, delivering food relief items to flood victims, and lobbying for the return of cultural artifacts from the UK to Uganda.

Following her decision, the FDC party office in Dokolo district, which was managed by Dr. Alwoc, will officially close, as she is no longer participating in politics or managing any political affairs in the district.

Julius Peter Okello Awany, the chairperson of the FDC party in Dokolo district, confirmed the closure of the office and denied allegations that the FDC party no longer exists in the district.

He noted that while the party is facing challenges with office space, it continues to operate and engage with the community.

The late Cecilia Ogwal, who passed away on January 18, 2024, was a respected leader known for her transparency, accountability, and advocacy for human rights.

Her death marked the end of an era in Dokolo district politics, leaving a significant void in the leadership landscape.

Dr. Alwoc’s decision not to contest the seat has opened the field for other candidates to vie for the position, including Sarah Aguti Nyangkori of the Uganda People’s Congress (UPC), Janet Rose Adong Elau of the National Resistance Movement (NRM), and others.
