New Pope elected. He’s Pope Leo XIV

At 7:12pm local time on Thursday, May 8 the Vatican announced White smoke had appeared.

The 133 Cardinal electors who for days gathered in the Vatican’s Sistine Chapel were to elect the new Pope to replace Pope Francis who died on Easter Monday.

Subsequent updates kept flowing, with the Vatican adding: “The Cardinals gathered in the Vatican’s Sistine Chapel have elected Cardinal Robert Francis Prevost as the 267th Pope, who took the name Pope Leo XIV.”

Soon, Pope Leo XIV greeted the world for the first time to grant his Urbi et Orbi blessing.

Cardinal Robert Francis Prevost was elected as the Successor of Peter by the 133 Cardinal electors.

Cardinal Protodeacon Dominique Mamberti made the announcement that the Cardinals had elected Cardinal Robert Francis Prevost.
