King James comprehensive school of nursing and midwifery holds a historic graduation

Lira | On Friday, February 28, 2025, King James Comprehensive School of Nursing and Midwifery held its first-ever graduation ceremony to honor academic achievement and professional dedication.

A total of 1,261 graduated in an historic event. 919 received nursing certificates and 342 in midwifery.

The ceremony was held on the school grounds and was attended by distinguished guests, including John Kennedy Wakida, Chairperson of the Uganda Nurses and Midwives Examinations Board, who served as the chief guest.

In his address, Wakida urged those graduating to maintain the highest levels of professionalism and integrity as they enter the healthcare field.

“As you join the noble profession of nursing and midwifery, remember that your work is not just a job but a calling to serve humanity with compassion, dedication, and excellence,” Wakida emphasized.

He commended King James Comprehensive School of Nursing and Midwifery for its commitment to producing skilled healthcare professionals who will contribute to improving health service delivery across the country.

Dick Odongo, the institution’s Managing Director, also addressed the audience, highlighting the school’s remarkable growth since its inception in 2024.

“From a modest beginning with only 60 students, we now have over 800 students enrolled, a testament to the trust and reputation we have built among parents and the community,” he said.

Odongo expressed gratitude to Lira Regional Referral Hospital and Apac General Hospital for their collaboration in providing practical training opportunities for the students.

He added that the school’s reputation has drawn students from a variety of areas, including Moroto, Jinja, Masaka, Soroti, West Nile, and Lango, among others.

“This diversity enriches our learning environment and prepares our graduates to serve in different parts of the country,” he added.

Beatrice Alamo, Principal of the School addressed the gathering with great pride. “Today, we celebrate not only the culmination of years of rigorous study, tireless dedication, and unwavering commitment but also the beginning of a remarkable journey in the noble profession of nursing and midwifery.”

Alamo emphasized the importance of the graduation, which signifies the successful completion of training for the first cohort of students.

“Our theme for this historic event: ‘Skills and Competence-Based Training for Better Health Service Delivery,’ reflects our commitment to equipping our graduates with the knowledge and skills needed to excel in their profession and make a meaningful impact in the healthcare sector,” she added.

The ceremony was attended by proud parents, guardians, and supporters who celebrated the graduates’ accomplishments. The event also included cultural performances, motivational speeches, and the presentation of awards to outstanding students.

As graduates begin their professional careers, they carry with them the values of compassion, empathy, and service instilled by King James Comprehensive School of Nursing and Midwifery.
