Alebtong | The territorial police in Alebtong district say they are shocked by the escape of six suspects from lawful custody.

They fled from the Alebtong Central Police Station around 10:15 p.m. on May 26, 2024.

According to SP Jimmy Okema, the PRO of the North Kyoga Region, the report was made by their own police officer, No. 79294 PC Anyirira Michael, aged 40.

PC Anyirira, according to SP Okema, is assigned to Alebtong Central Police Station.

The Police Constable (PC) claimed that while on duty, they heard strange noises at the uniport where the suspects were held. However, when they responded, they noticed the suspects fleeing.

The suspects were pursued while officers fired shots into the air to scare them, but in vain.

“A case of escape from lawful custody has been registered under Alebtong GEF 007/2024,” SP Okema stated.

“Two suspects were apprehended and brought back. A search was conducted in and around the cells; a metal piece used by suspects to dig the floor at the bottom of the uniport to gain access out of the cell was recovered and displayed as evidence.”

“Officers deployed on duty have been arrested for making statements before being charged with neglect of duty.”

The suspects include:

A1- APITA DENIS, charged with theft.

A2- OCEN EMMA, charged with defilement.

A3- ONGOM TOM, charged with stealing cattle.

A4- OTIM ISAAC, charged with theft.

A5- OCEN MOSES- charged with theft.

A6- OKELLO HENRY, charged with burglary and theft.

“All local leadership where the suspects come from have been informed. Efforts to have the escapees re-arrested are going on.

“We are appealing for community support to have them re-arrested and taken to court because the majority of their files have already been sanctioned,” Okema said.
