Pader: Drugs, testing kits worth million stolen from Paiula H/CII

Pader—6, November 2021: Unknown people Thursday night broke into Paiula health centre II in Pader district stealing medicines and other hospital items worth millions of shillings.

The crime happened on 4, November, according to the district health officer.

Anna Apio is the acting assistant district health officer (Ag. DHO) of Pader. She visited the facility on Friday morning after receiving a phone call from Ojok Ivan, the health centre in charge.

She said Ojok informed her about the incident. “The missing drugs consisted of 30 boxes of coartem, 40 boxes of Amoxiline, and 80 boxes of RDT used for testing malaria. Each of the stolen box had 1,000 capsules,” she added.

Apio said the drugs were just taken to the H/CII one week ago by the Pader district health department after receiving them from national medical stores.

Paiula H/CII will be receiving more drugs in two months provided the ministry of health through the national medical stores procure more drugs.

Currently, Pader district local government cannot do anything since the district only receives drugs from the ministry of health and partners.

No key suspects have been arrested apart from the health centre in charge, Ojok who is currently detained at Pader central police station to record his statement.

Justine Ocen is the Vice Chairman LC5 of the district. Ocen who doubles as secretary health, condemned the act and warned those who are still planning to still more drugs not to try.

“The district together with security will make sure the culprits are brought to books,” he vowed.
