
Chief Justice Dollo urges leaders to reconcile for better development

Pader, March 14, 2022 | The Chief justice (CJ) of Uganda has urged Pader district leaders to unite instead of tension between several politicians.
CJ Alfonse Owiny-Dollo said this at the weekend of March, 13 about the arrests of locals and leaders during a demonstration that took place last year on the 6th and 7th of December 2021.
The CJ Alfonse Owiny-Dollo was among dozens at a dinner meeting organized by the district and Te-kworo Foundation to discuss a concern of growing tension between the leaders in the district.
He urged both parties to reconcile and forgive each other.
In that dinner meeting, the chief guest was CJ Dollo. Several dignitaries including DP President Norbert Mao, Nwoya East MP Charles Okello, Rt. Rev. Mark Baker Ochola, and others.
Charles Okello, Nwoya East Member of Parliament said that there is an urgent need to intervene to curb the increasing tension between leaders in Pader.
He added that leaders in Pader must be true to themselves rather than seeking popularity.
Norbert Mao, Democratic Party President castigated the leaders who are fighting each other by saying that they should avoid undermining others.
He added “As leaders, good communication is another way to sort things out.” he encouraged them to learn how to communicate with each other.
However, Fearless Obwoya Oyat, Pader district chairperson was not happy during the dinner following Nwoya East MP’s communication.
He said there was no information given to him about reconciliation as he was only informed about a dinner.
History
Last year, 33 people were arrested and released on bail by Pader district grade one magistrate court following the accusation of participating during the riot that took place on December 6th and 7th 2021 that left properties worth millions of shillings vandalized.
The accused persons were required to produce 2 sureties in court before being granted bail.
They were released on non-cash bail of 1 million shillings each, and their sureties at a fee of 2 million shillings each.
The arrested people included Pader town council mayor, Fearless Wod-Acholi, councillor V for Pader town council, and others.
Pader district chairperson, Fearless Obwoya Obwoya was among the six state witnesses who made their testimonies before the court to convict the 33 suspects including the Mayor.
This has so far gone violent in terms of relations between the political heads.
