Christmas: Lira City massively violated Covid-19 guidelines – ASP Okema 

Lira City recorded at least two suicide cases and Police told the media five suicide and three murder cases happened between December 23 and 26.

Lira – December 28, 2021: North Kyoga Region Police have expressed frustration at how leisure places and bars in Lira City violated Covid-19 guidelines during the Christmas celebration.

On Monday, the North Kyoga Regional Police PRO ASP Jimmy Patrick Okema said all bars and happening places were open on December 25 and 26 [Boxing Day].

According to him, people danced trans-night in the City and other towns in the Lango sub-region.

“I want to report that there was a massive violation of Covid-19 guidelines in Lira City and other towns,” disappointed ASP Okema told the press.

Okema communicated to the population that bars and dancing places, schools have never been opened by the President.

Police also reported five suicide and three murder cases in Lango between December 23 and 26.

ASP Okema attributed increasing suicide and murder cases to domestic violence. Others who committed suicide failed to play VSLA group loans.

He said it is unfortunate that the Law does not pin somebody who commits suicide. “But the vice is worrying the security.”

 “Police at North Kyoga is analyzing and compiling what could be the leading cause of suicide in Lango,” he told the media.

Most of the murders happened in Oyam district, according to Okema, and Police are concerned about it.
