Conmen impersonating senior UPDF officers over recruitment invade Bukedi

Soroti | The Uganda Peoples’ Defence Forces (UPDF) 3 Division has expressed concern over a group of conmen extorting up to shs350,000 from unsuspecting civilians in the Bukedi sub-region via mobile money transfers.

The conmen pretend to help the victims get recruited into the UPDF as officer cadets.

They are impersonating senior UPDF and security officers from Bukedi or who work in the region.

It is understood by tndNews that joint intelligence teams are putting forth a lot of effort to bust through these criminal cells, capture, and legally prosecute them.

The public is notified that there is no current recruitment process for the UPDF and that there is no cost associated with joining the force.

Major Isaac Oware is the Public Information Officer for 3 Division. He says the UPDF will make an official announcement through the media when it is time to recruit.

He also urges the public not to be duped by conmen and advises Ugandans to report any such criminal activity to security and appropriate authorities.
