Kenyan among 3 nursing injuries after fatal road crash in Kole

Kole | An unidentified person died on the spot while four others were seriously injured after a motor vehicle crashed into an electric pole in Kole district. 

The road crash occurred on March 26, 2024, at around 9 am at corner Molem-Alyat along Lira-Kamdini road.

North Kyoga Regional Police spox, SP Patrick Jimmy Okema gave more information on Tuesday.

“It is alleged that a motor vehicle with Reg No. SSD 973S/UAU 490R, a trailer coming from the Kamdini side heading towards Lira City, was being driven by an unidentified driver.

“The driver lost control, causing the vehicle to veer off the road and crash into an electric pole, resulting in the death of one person who was trapped in the vehicle,” SP Okema said.

Those with serious injuries have been identified as Kamau Joseph, 34, Kenyan from Eldoret, and Omina Martin, 30, from Soroti.

Others are Akol David, 33, from Kasumbala, and another only identified as Michael and brother of Akol from Kasumbala.

“All injured individuals were rushed to Lira Regional Referral Hospital in critical condition.”

The motor vehicle is still at the scene, and the deceased’s body was removed and taken to Lira Regional Referral Hospital’s mortuary pending postmortem.

According to Okema, there are efforts to remove the vehicle from the scene, adding that coordination with the breakdown team to extract it from the electric pole was in high gear.

“Our traffic team, led by OC Traffic Kole, is investigating to determine the circumstances of the accident.”
