Alebtong youth acquire ICT skills offered by Huawei

Alebtong | A total of 241 youths in Alebtong district who underwent training in information and communication technology (ICT) skills by Huawei Technologies, a Chinese multinational technologies company, have been passed out to the digital market. 

The beneficiaries include entrepreneurs, vulnerable people, businesswomen, students and jua-kali. They were passed out on Thursday in a ceremony presided over by the Ajuri County MP, Denis Hamson Obua.

Held at Alebtong Booma ground, Obua who is also the government chief whip, welcomed the deputy managing director of Huawei, Jian Gao.

Gao said the project targets to train over 10,000 Ugandans within 3 years and so far it has trained 3,000 in Teso, Busoga and Lango sub-regions.

President Yoweri Museveni launched the project, Digitruck on March 8, 2023, with a plan to benefit over 10,000 people.

It was part of the company’s long-term plan for driving inclusion and sustainability across the globe through the umbrella of Huawei`s TECH4ALL initiative.

Gao also said the project is progressing very well and currently they are glad to report that they have trained over 3000 and have trickled down to the communities to spread the gospel of Information, and communication technology.

“We hope that those who benefitted from these skills can use it to improve their livelihood and understand the importance of ICT,” he said.

Obua noted that there is a cordial working relationship between the two countries, China and Uganda and it will continue without any disruption.

He added that Uganda and China enjoy 360-degree diplomatic relations, cordial relations, politically, economically, socially and in all aspects.

“I want to salute you for taking the lead to come to this rural district called Alebtong,” Obua added.

Ajuri County MP added that the Huawei Digitruck which was meant to promote the digital transformation for Uganda was launched in 2023 by the President signifying the fact that Uganda supports the digital agenda and is ready for it.

“This is why Huawei is in Alebtong to train young people. It is a clear manifestation of the fact that ICT forms a very important aspect of life in the current World.”

He called upon the partner to consider establishing an Information Communication Technology (ICT) hub in the district.
