Police identify 12 who sustained injuries in Kwania road crash

Kwania | One person identified as Olel Denis, 24, has died. 

Until his death, he was a resident of Nakitoma village, Wansolo parish, Apoi sub-county in Apac district.

He reportedly died on the spot in a road crash on February 24, 2024, at around noon at Ogwang-ogwang village.

It is alleged that motor vehicle Reg No UBH 114F [Isuzu blue in colour] left Nakitoma village, Wansolo parish, heading to Lori village, Apoyika parish, Chawente sub-county Kwania district with an unspecified number of mourners for burial.

“Upon reaching Imeng village, along Alido road, the motor vehicle developed a mechanical problem (steering failure), the driver lost control and overturned killing Olel Denis on the spot,” SP Jimmy Okema, PRO North Kyoga said.

Okema added that 12 others sustained serious injuries and were quickly rushed to Apac Hospital for treatment.

The 12 have been identified as Onyuru Alex, Auma Stella, Okol Moses; Odongo Vincent, Otile Nelson; Ocen Ivan and Atop Lillian.

Others are Evaline Elel, Sharon Oyuru; Apicha Ruth, Odul Opati and Awici Edina.

The dead body was conveyed to Apac Main Hospital’s mortuary pending postmortem, according to Okema.

“The driver is still not yet identified and is at large. This is really very unfortunate. We continue appealing to drivers to always check the vehicle conditions and conduct regular service before going to the road,” SP Okema appealed.
