Oyam | The territorial police in Oyam district are investigating the shooting of three people and the robbery of shs65,000.

This crime happened on December 26, 2023, at around 1950 hours in Berakite cell, Loro Town Council, Oyam District.

The ongoing investigations follow a report registered by Obote Robert, a businessman and a resident of the same place.

It’s alleged that on Boxing Day, a man dressed in green military attire entered a hardware shop of Obote Robert at Berakite cell in Loro Town Council, Oyam District and pulled a gun and a black polythene bag. He ordered the shop attendant, Obongo Morris, to put money in that bag.

However, in fear, Obongo managed to run into the back room to inform his father. This prompted the assailant to start shooting in the air as he escaped.

Later as he approached a maize mill belonging to Okullo Ricky, he shot at and injured three people namely: Okola Kizito Isaac, 19, a resident of Olangit “A” village in Ogwete sub-county in Otuke district, Obwol Innocent, 25, a boda-boda rider within Loro Town Council and RA 278021 Private Okello Emmanuel, 25, a UPDF officer and a resident of Loro Town Council. The injured were passing by.

Later, Obongo Morris noticed that shs65,000 which was on the counter was missing. Immediately, a case was reported at Loro Police Station.

The scene of the crime was visited by a team of Police officers led by the DPC Oyam, victims were rushed to Atapara Hospital for medical attention, and four cartridges and one live ammunition were recovered from the crime scene.

Efforts to have the assailant arrested are ongoing by a joint team of security forces.

This is such a very unfortunate incident. However, it looks purely a planned robbery, though we leave it for the investigators to come out with a clear report.
