Kampala | A businesswoman at Bugolobi market, Kampala was Friday evening shot and left unconscious by a private security guard.
Though she was later rushed to the hospital for treatment, she later died.
The 9 pm incident happened when a guard employed by Security Plus Ltd, Aijuka Arode had what the Police described as a “distressing altercation” with a businesswoman Mutesi Zainabu, 48.
The deceased was operating a drink and merchandise store within Bugolobi market building.
“The Police at Bugolobi and Jinja road is currently investigating a tragic shooting incident that resulted in the loss of a life,” ASP Luke Owoyesigyire, the KMP Deputy Police PRO said.
“During the unfortunate confrontation, the security guard allegedly moved a distance of about three meters and fired a single shot at the store where the victim was situated.
“Mutesi Zainabu was critically injured and promptly rushed to a nearby hospital for medical attention. Despite all efforts, she tragically succumbed to the injuries she sustained.
“Her body was respectfully conveyed to City Mortuary Mulago for Postmortem examination.
“Upon arrival at the scene, the Police observed that the suspect had fled with his rifle,” Owoyesigyire added.
Through diligent efforts, Deputy PRO revealed that the Police were able to apprehend the suspect on Saturday morning, and he is currently detained at Jinja Road Police.
“We have also successfully recovered the suspected murder weapon.
“Our dedicated team is committed to pursuing this case diligently, and we assure the public that every effort is being made to uncover the truth behind this regrettable incident.
“Further details will be provided as soon as possible, as the investigation progresses,” SP Owoyesigyire concluded.
