In brief, Kampala | At least 34 suspected criminal gangs operating in the Kampala Central Business District (CBD) were arrested on Monday, July 25.
They were taken to Central Police Station, Kampala, the Deputy Police PRO for Kampala Metropolitan, ASP Luke Owoyesigyire said.
“The gangs have been involved in various criminal activities, including vandalism of parked and moving motor vehicles, snatching of phones, pickpocketing, and other offences.
“The arrested suspects are currently in custody at the Central Police Station Kampala, where investigations are underway,” Owoyesigyire added.
The operation remains ongoing, according to the Deputy PRO, adding, “The public will be informed of any further progress in due course.”
The majority of cases reported across Police stations in Kampala and surrounding areas indicate that laptops, smartphones, and women’s handbags are among the top stolen or snatched items.
