Kampala, June 17, 20023: Justice Stella Arach Amoko is dead aged 69. She passed on Saturday morning, 4:00 am at Nakasero Hospital, Kampala, Deputy Chief Justice Richard Buteera says in a statement.
“It is with deep sorry that i announce the death of the Hon. Lady Justice Stella Arach-Amoko, Justice of the Supreme Court……”
“Our sincere condolences go out to family of Hon Late Hon Justice Stella Arach-Amoko, the Judiciary, the legal fraternity, the country and the East African region as a whole.
Arach-Amoko was appointed a Justice of the Supreme Court in 2013, a position she has served until the time of her death, Deputy Chief Justice says.
She joined the Judiciary in 1997 as a Judge of the High Court and was elevated to Justice of the Court of Appeal in 2010.

“The Judiciary has lost an extraordinary jurist who has been a champion of justice.”
In 2013, Justice Amoko who was the President of the National Association of Women Judges together with her members (female judges) expressed concern over the increase in Gender Based Violence and abuse in the country.
At that time, President Amoko attributed the increase to the fact that the Law on GBV: Domestic Violence Act No. 17 of 2010 was not widely known among the legal professionals.
