Lira, June 15, 2023: Police at Lira City Central Police Station are investigating the murder of Magdalene Lochoro, 23. The deceased was a student of Uganda Christian Institute for Professional Development (UCIPD).
John Bosco Ogwal, principal of the Institute said the “unfortunate student” from Napak district was a second year student pursuing medical records. She was renting a hostel outside the Institute, Ogwal says.
“One of our students called Magdalene Lochoro was in the wee hours of Thursday found lying dead and naked in the pool of blood,” said Ogwal.
Ogwal told TND News that Lochoro was renting a hostel around Corner Boroboro, Lira City East Division. He room was just about 1 km from the Institute.
On behalf of the Governing Council and Board of Governors, Bonny Ferdinand Okello Alele, the Institute’s Director, said it is unfortunate to Uganda Christian Institute to witness such a fate.
Alele calls for calmness from the students’ fraternity, school leaders and the community as investigations continue.

North Kyoga Police Spokesperson, SP Jimmy Patrick Okema said of dead Magdalane. “It’s alleged that on 15th June 2023 at around 0300 hrs the reporter, Pastor Enock Mugabi Amanya who is also the landlord of the deceased received information that Lochoro Mangdaline, a Karamojong by tribe and a student at Uganda Christian Institute for Professional Development (UCIPD) had been murdered by unknown people by stabbing in the chest and body was lying in the compound at Ocukur Cell Boroboro Lira City.”
SP Okema said a team of police officers visited the scene led by the DPC Lira City CPS, SP Joseph Bakaleke who photographed and documented the crime scene.
The killer knife believed to have been used was also recovered and other exhibits including drugs (narcotic) and pieces of rolled marijuana substances were also recovered at the scene.
According to Okema, statements were recorded from other tenants and friends of the deceased including the arrest of Isaac Ayela who was the deceased boyfriend.
Police says the suspect they have arrested will support them with the ongoing investigations and is asking the public for any clue about the killers.
