Kampala, June 7, 2023: Kato Lubwama was a Member of Parliament for Rubaga South in the 10th Parliament. In the 2021 general elections, he lost his seat to Aloysius Mukasa.

His death was announced by his promoter and business associate Andrew Mukasa who is widely known as Bajjo.

“Hon Kato Lubwama is dead. Your former MP is dead. That’s what I can say for now,” Bajjo said in a video clip.

On June 9, 2017, Lubwama was awarded a Heroes medal by President Yoweri Museveni for his longtime career in acting and comedy. He was among the 363 Ugandans awarded on that day in Zirobwe sub-county, Luwero district.

“President Museveni did not give me this medal because of politics. It was in recognition of what I have done for this country through acting comedy,” he said, as recalled by the Daily Monitor.

Lubwama will be remembered for his punchiness while acting and for his fearless reproach of some artists like Gravity Omutujjo and Eddy Kenzo. In October 2022, he said Gravity “doesn’t sing but just shouts”.
