Blinken recognizes DRC’s efforts against corruption

“We have seen some positive steps from the government in this regard,” Blinken said.


Kinshasa, DRC – August 19, 2022: During his two-day-long stay in the Democratic Republic of Congo, US Secretary of State Antony Blinken expressed the United States’ satisfaction with ongoing efforts by the government to implement good governance and the continued fight against corruption, money laundering, and embezzlement of public funds.

“There is a recognition that corruption is like cancer that threatens democracy, the Congolese people, and the possibility of foreign investment. We have seen some positive steps from the government in this regard,” Blinken said.

The East African country’s Inspectorate General of Finances (IGF) led by its Chief of Service, Jules Alingete continues to multiply efforts to support President Felix Tshisekedi’s vision for good governance. 

“With Alingete’s appointment in June 2020, came a fresh wave of initiatives and actions to restore the correct management of public funds and the implementation of good governance,” a statement from the office of the president, reads.

Directly under the authority of the President of the Republic, the IGF has proven to be a pillar in this fight. Over the past two years, it has succeeded in effectively supporting financial institutions, ministries, and companies in the state portfolio in this regard. 

The Inspectorate sends its inspectors on missions to ensure the rationalization of financial operations and expenditures, as well as the mobilization of revenues.

In addition, the IGF also carries out fiscal counter-auditing to ensure the implementation of good governance. Once these missions are completed, the reports are communicated to the President of the Republic and, if criminal facts are found, the same report is also sent to the appropriate legal services for further investigation. 

Mr. Jules Alingete, Chief of Service at the IGF, stated: “We must always discourage predators for the sake of implementing good governance. The fight against corruption must be embraced by all levels of the population.

With the support of the supreme authority, President Félix Antoine Tshisekedi the implementation of good governance will become a reality.
