Preliminary awards ceremony at 4th IWPG international ‘Loving-Peace Art Competition’

Nairobi, Kenya – June 30, 2022: The International Women’s Peace Group (IWPG, Chairwoman Hyun-sook Yoon) successfully wrapped up the Kenyan preliminary awards ceremony for the 4th International ‘Loving-Peace Art Competition’ offline on June 24th. 

The Jeonbuk Branch of the International Women’s Peace Group (IWPG, Chief Branch Manager of Jeonbuk Mi-hyeon Yeo) sponsored the event and made it possible.

The IWPG International ‘Loving-Peace Art Competition’ was arranged to remind children and youth of the painful history of the war to raise their awareness of the cessation of war and promote the culture of world peace. The event was planned under the theme of the World United By the Light of Peace.

With the event title of ‘Peace, Let’s Be Friends!,’ about 20 elementary school students participated in peace painting at Greenyard Junior School (Principal, Miss Wambui) in Nairobi, Kenya, on the 2nd.

The judges screened the paintings submitted in the preliminary round according to the criteria. The results are as follows: David Ledama was awarded the top prize, Kendi Kirimi the excellence prize, Jamara Muthoni, Etthan Ngare Karathe, and Blessing Inge the encouragement prize.

David Ledama (Greenyard Junior School, Grade 7), who took first place, and the other students who participated in the competition said that they came to think more about peace through the competition and were so motivated that they wanted to try it again next year.

More than 10,000 people from 61 countries worldwide including Kenya participate in the 4th International ‘Loving-Peace Art Competition,’ and each country or each IWPG branch holds the ceremony for the preliminary awards. 

The best paintings selected from each country are mailed to the Republic of Korea, where the IWPG headquarters is located, and reviewed in November finals.

Meanwhile, IWPG is an international women’s NGO registered with the United Nations Economic and Social Council (UN ECOSOC) and the United Nations Department of Global Communications (UN DGC). 

They actively engage in peace activities through peace initiatives such as Support and Advocacy for Establishment of an International Law for Peace, Global Women’s Peace Network, Women Peace Education, and Plant Peace (spreading a culture of peace).
