Agago, March 30, 2022: Peter Obwot who takes over from Charles Jurua has been working as town clerk of Kalongo town council.

Jurua’s transfer followed a resolution made by councillors of Patongo town council demanding the Office of the Chief Administrative Officer, Agago district to transfer him away.

The LC3 chairman of Patongo town council Stephen Komakech confirmed this when giving his remark during a handover event on Friday, March 25, 2022.

Komakech applauded the office of the CAO for transferring Charles Jurua from Patongo.

The councillors blamed the former town clerk for the alleged mismanagement of public funds with no proper accountability.

Komakech noted that mismanagement of funds affected planned activities including the construction of public toilets in Oliga market, Garbage management, among others.

A female councillor representing the people of Patongo in the district council who requested her identity said during the handover, there was only 49,000 shilling from locally raised revenue.

In December 2021, part of the funds reportedly missing from the bank account included 7.7 million shillings realized as locally raised revenue in October and November,  3.6 million shillings meant for procuring fuel and repairs of 27 kilometres of the road section and 6.8 million shillings for payment of road gangs.

Patrick Okidi, one of the councillors said at the time they can no longer work with an incompetent town clerk who has failed to manage the affairs of the town council and implement lawful council resolutions and government projects.

The town clerk, Charles Jurua denied any wrongdoing in the matter saying he was only being witch-hunted by some individuals who are against his mode of administration and non-tolerance towards corruption.
