Lamwo: Girl, 14, drowns in water stream

Lamwo – March 10, 2022: A South Sudanese settlement camp under Zone 5-B is mourning the death of one girl aged 14.

 

She reportedly drowned while collecting water at a nearby stream in the morning of March 8, 2022.   

 

The deceased, Barnetta Arwero, 14, is a South Sudanese refugee and lived in Zone B, Block 12-A. 

 

She left home early morning on Women’s Day to fetch water at a nearby water stream with a 10 litres Jerrycan but delayed coming back.  

 

 

Gladys Aromorach, a woman leader of Zone 5-B, Block 12A which is part of the refugee settlement camp areas reported the tragedy to Palabek Ogili Police station. 

 

She found Arwero had succumbed to drowning (water) and her body was floating on water.   

    

 

ASP David Ongom Mudong, the Aswa River Region Police spokesperson said that some relatives of the deceased appeared.

 

According to Mudong, they alleged that the deceased had epilepsy sickness that could attack her often which they believe could have led to the drawing incident.   

 

Mudong added that IP James Owili and other officers responded and analyzed the scene by recording statements from relevant witnesses.

 

He also said the Block leader of the refugees worked with the police in retrieving the body from the water stream.   

 

The deceased body was taken to Ogili health centre III for postmortem.  

 

 

Death by drowning vide SD: Ref: 13/09/03/2022 has been registered at Palabek Ogili Police Station in Lamwo district.
