Oyam – March 7, 2022: The territorial Police in Oyam district is investigating circumstances under which an SMG Rifle went missing.

The missing gun, No. UG Pol. 56-85729 had 30 rounds of ammunition.

It is alleged that SPC Ogwang George signed for the gun on March 2, 2022, from the armoury and was deployed as “a cell guard”.

TND News now understands that Ogwang never handed over the rifle as per the procedures.

Instead, he reportedly went with it to his house and gave the gun to CPL Ojok James. Police describe this motive as an “unclear motive”.

On March 3, 2022, at around 11:00 am, Sgt Dratema Rem found CPL Ojok lying in a pool of blood in the house. He was unconscious and his colleague, Denis Ogwang was not around.

CPL Ojok was immediately rushed to Anyeke Health Center IV for medical attention, from where he was transferred to Pope John Paul (Aber Hospital).

As of Monday, both SPC Ogwang George and Omara were in police custody. A case vide CRB 109/2022 continues to be investigated.

According to ASP Patrick Jimmy Okema, PRO of North Kyoga Region, a search was conducted within and around the scene and a big stone with blood stains was recovered.

The stone, he said, is believed to have been used to hit CPL Ojok James.

Following thorough interrogations, both SPC Ogwang and Omara revealed that the gun was with a civilian identified as Ayo Denis.

On March 6, 2022, at Acaba SS playground, a police team went to apprehend Ayo Denis but they met some resistance.

Some locals started throwing stones at both security personnel and the suspect but security managed to arrest him (Ayo).

SPC Jimmy Obongo, one of the arresting officers sustained serious injuries on the right eye, around the neck and both hands.

He was rushed to Anyeke Health Centre IV with the suspect who had bruises on his head.

On March 7, 2022, at around midday, Ayo succumbed to the injuries he had sustained.
