Amudat – March 7, 2022: There was joy and excitement in Karita Health IV when the Amudat district Woman Member of Parliament, Betty Chelain Louke delivered a consignment of mama kits and other medical supplies to the health centre.

According to the health centre In-charge, the facility has been operating “organically” without mama kits making it very hard for both the midwives and expectant mothers to carry out safe deliveries.

The MP served in the medical field prior and worked in the Karamoja sub-region for a reasonable time.

Sources say she is very “passionate about the plight of her people especially the pregnant mothers”.

“I have worked with several organisations dealing in health-related activities here in Amudat and Karamoja in general and I have full-blown knowledge of all the challenges our expectant mothers go through while giving birth…,” she said.

Through the Midwives and Nurses Union working in partnership with the Ministry of Health, Betty lobbied for the maternity kits from  a US-based organization called “Direct Relief- California”.

She has appealed to all other charity organisations, Implementing and Development partners to support her in the development of Amudat.

“We have affirmative action as Karamoja but Amudat specifically needs an Internal affirmative action,” she said after handing over the items.
