Pader March 4, 2022: Pader district councillors have forced the council speaker to adjourn businesses until further notice.

The decision reached this far after a failure by the Office of the Chief Administrative Officer(CAO) not to pay sitting allowances for the previous five sittings.

Each councillor is supposed to get shs 320,000 per sitting.

On March 3, 2022, after more than 30 minutes there were less than six councillors in the August House.

Of those, and others who never bothered to leave their homes wanted clarity from the executives and CAO about unpaid monies.

The district speaker Well-born Otto-ber confirmed the saga. “I had to adjourn the meeting until further notice after failing to realize the quorum for the second time.”

He noted that out of 46 members of the district council only 5 were in the house. “That could not allow the council to proceed,” he added.

Josephine Lakot Akena, representing Paiula sub-county, said they could not continue with the meeting besides accumulated unpaid allowances.

One of the councillors, Okwera representing the people of Bong-tiko sub-county expressed his disappointment on how the district is being run.

“The allowance can support us, our livelihoods and others,” he said.

The councillors have vowed never to sit in any council meeting until their allowances are paid – to zero.

The district chairman Fearless Obwonya was out of the district headquarters on Wednesday and could not be available on the phone to talk to us.
