Lira wealth’s creation commander dies after gunning himself

The deceased left a note, revealing why he was killing himself.

Dokolo – February 28, 2022: 0n Monday afternoon, February 28, a senior officer of the Uganda People’s Defence Forces (UPDF) died.

 

The deceased, at the rank of a captain, committed suicide at his home in Dokolo Town Council. 

 

Reports are that he shot himself on the head with his gun, an AK47 type.

Captain Binasia Olaka, until his death, was the coordinator of the Operation Wealth Creation (OWC) for Lira City East Division, Lira City.

He shot himself at around 3 pm, Monday. 

 

According to his wife, Florence Olaka, her husband returned home and entered the house, saying he wanted to take a rest.

 

When she was outside preparing groundnuts, a few minutes later she heard the sound of a gunshot inside the house.

 

After she entered inside the husband was lifeless.

 

Anatoli Katugwensi is the North Kyoga Regional Police Commander (RPC). He told TND News the deceased left a suicide note which was recovered by police.

 

The RPC did not give the details of what the deceased wrote.

 

“It’s confirmed it is a suicide case because he wrote a suicide note notifying people about his death and why he is killing himself. The suicide note is with the police that is still at the crime scene,” Katugwensi told TND News on the phone, Monday evening.

 

“There is no need for arrest since the deceased committed suicide by killing himself after giving the reason,” he added.

 

“When someone has killed himself and has left a suicide note detailing why he is killing himself there is no suspect to be arrested,” the RPC revealed.

 

He said the deceased shot himself with an AK47 gun which was assigned to him by the army.

 

The body was taken to Dokolo Health Center IV mortuary.
