Gulu – February 21, 2022: Youth representatives in the Acholi sub-region have blamed both opposition leaders and the NRM government for not speaking about the solutions to the issues affecting them.
Denis Kilama, a youth representative to Amuru district council said the NRM government does not focus on the barriers, adding that projects always come when it is projected to the specific groups of people leaving youth in dilemma.
“Emyooga and Parish Development Model are just by names not helping the youths,” he claimed.
Kilama, however, revealed that popular people do not allow youths to speak on the issue of land. “If you talk, they will disappear with you in a few hours.”
“Wild animals have killed many people in Nwoya district, leaving many orphans yet they (government) have not come up with a solution to address and support those victims,” Kilama added.
The youth leader advised local people to lease out their lands but not sell them at a cheaper amount of money to any developer.
He appealed to the opposition to speak out their minds to get solutions to their problems.
“Last year FDC launched a red card movement claiming to change the government of Uganda as led by former FDC party president Kizza Besigye who preached dialogue without a solution to change of government,” he recalled.
Ronald Albion Opiyo, a youth leader in Agago district said politician, leaders are using local people as a tool for gaining their popularity.
He cited cattle rustling in Agago district and invasion by Karamojong natives.
Opiyo asked the youth of Agago to organise a petition to the ministry of defence for failing to operate the road that connects to Kabong-Abim-Kotido as cattle rustling in the district continues.
Monica Apiyo, another youth councilor who doubles as secretary of female affairs of Gulu city, blamed the opposition, calling them preachers.
“They are not coming out with solutions to the problems regarding teenage pregnancy and unemployment of youth and poverty in Acholi,” she said.
Apiyo added that the opposition should stop politicising issues and change the meaning of dialogue.
Babe Alli regional is the coordinator of Joseph Kizza Kabuleta’s NEED Uganda, an organisation preaching about dialogue, among others.
Alli highlighted that youth should begin liberating themself other than waiting for someone to liberate them, adding they are coming to steal property.
Alli advised the youth to love their culture.
Meanwhile, Kizza Joseph Kabuleta, former presidential candidate for the last election and founder of NEED Uganda said youth should desist from short term visions and change to long term visions and fight poverty in Acholi.
Kabuleta said Museveni is a true and total liar in the world, advising the youth to fight for their property so that it’s not stolen by the NRM government.
“Be vigilant and move away from a narrow mind, see bad things that the government is doing to the people of Uganda,” he added.
