Lira – February 19, 2022: Lira City Council Football Club (LCC FC) has Saturday received balls.

The donation was made by Dr. Patrick Ogwel who is the Secretary-General of the National Council of Sports (NCS).

While receiving the 10 balls, Martin Owani, Lira City Council FC Chief Executive Officer applauded the spirit of sportsmanship and philanthropy that Dr. Ogwel has exhibited.

LCC FC CEO continued that people should support football clubs in the region not only for entertainment but also for bringing people together; talent development, business improvement, and selling our city – Lira.

It should be known that Ogwel is a major shareholder of Blacks Power FC, a football club currently topping the group in the StarTimes FUFA Big League.

The football club relocated from Bukedea Town Council to Lira City and it is currently using Akii-Bua Stadium as their home ground.

Addressing the media on Friday in Lira city, Dr. Ogwel urged the people of Lango and Northern Uganda as a whole to embrace and support Black Power FC since it is the only club in the region playing top-flight football.

“Lira City Council FC has a lot to benchmark and learns from the success of Black power FC,” noted Erick Okek, Lira City Council FC President.

Okek added that the move by Ogwel is the beginning of several interactions and high-level engagements between the two clubs.

Hamza Okello, Bata Town Council FC CEO whose management was recently transferred to Lira City Council FC reminded the public that Black Power FC should be seen as an elder brother to Lira City Council FC as opposed to being seen as foes.

“We are still a young and vulnerable Club, Black Power FC has been in existence for a while, it has stood the taste of time and we need to learn from their success,” Okello noted.
