Kotido – February 16, 2022: Kotido general hospital is told to wait until the next financial year before it can get a full staffing level and improved infrastructure.

This was made clear by the visiting team from the ministry of health.

The team led by the permanent secretary Dr. Diana Atwine visited Kotido general hospital last week on Thursday.

The Director-General of health services, Dr. Henry G. Mwebesa said that they have received a notice from the district leaders that the hospital is facing challenges ranging from inadequate and poor infrastructure to understaffing.

Mwebase said the notice is timely. “It has come at a time when the ministry is in a planning process for new hospitals and what we have witnessed during the visit will help us lobby for more financing for the hospital.”

Dr. Diana Atwine said the ministry will follow up with public service to ensure that the district gets the money to recruit staff to full capacity by the next financial year.

The hospital is currently operating at a 35% staffing capacity.
